NEXT CHAPTER TUTORING
Meet your tutor
Welcome! I’m Mrs. Lindsay Brown, an educator with a Master’s degree in Reading and Literacy K–12, currently in my 16th year of teaching and my 4th year as a dedicated reading interventionist and tutor for Kindergarten through 8th grade students. As a certified reading specialist, I am passionate about helping students of all ages unlock the power of reading.
I am LETRS-certified and trained in UFLI (University of Florida Literacy Institute) practices, which means my instruction is rooted in the science of reading and supported by research-based methods proven to accelerate literacy growth. My approach combines structured, evidence-based strategies with individualized support to foster confidence and promote lasting learning.
I love working one-on-one or in small groups, creating a supportive environment where students thrive. In addition to reading, I also provide writing instruction—from foundational sentence structure and spelling to more advanced comprehension responses and essays. Whether your child needs to fill gaps in learning, maintain grade-level skills, or push beyond their current abilities, my tutoring services offer a valuable advantage.
Together, we can cultivate a love for reading and build the skills necessary for lifelong success!
The next chapter approach
At Next Chapter Tutoring, I believe every student can become a confident, independent reader and writer with the right tools and support. Literacy is more than a skill—it’s a gateway to learning, imagination, and success.
Reading Instruction
Grounded in the science of reading, my approach is systematic, structured, and multi-sensory. Phonics is the foundation, helping students decode words and build fluency. From there, I incorporate morphology—the study of word parts like prefixes, roots, and suffixes—to strengthen spelling, vocabulary, and word-meaning knowledge. These skills, combined with explicit work in vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension strategies, guide students toward the ultimate goal of reading: strong understanding of text.
Writing Instruction
Writing is taught alongside reading to reinforce and extend literacy skills. Younger students learn spelling through phonics-based practices and practice writing simple, well-constructed sentences with correct grammar and punctuation. Older students receive structured support through strategies like the RACES format, with an emphasis on precise vocabulary, sentence variety, and smooth transitions. I also guide students through the complete writing process—planning, drafting, revising, and editing—as they develop full five-paragraph essays.
A Supportive Environment
I foster a love of reading and writing by creating a positive, supportive environment where students feel confident tackling challenges and expressing themselves. By blending research-based instruction with a student-centered approach, I help learners build essential skills and a lifelong love of literacy.

Words from happy parents
“Lindsay has been working with our son since the summer of 2024 and we have seen so much growth in his ability to confidently read. She keeps him engaged through word study, reading roll games, and fluency practice (which he loves the most). Her way to motivate his learning is unmatched! I would highly recommend Lindsay to anyone looking for a 1-on-1 tutor!”
-Katie & Kyle Adams, parents of 3rd grader
“Lindsay has truly been a god send. We have had plenty of experience with tutors in the past. Never have we connected with someone like we have with Lindsay. Within an hour of meeting with my daughter, she was able to pinpoint her areas of improvement and it completely aligned with what we were looking for. She knows her stuff, comes prepared with lesson plans that match curriculum and is extremely passionate about her work. She has a heart of gold, and my daughter absolutely loves their times together. Never once has she not wanted to go to a session. Incredibly responsive and professional, shares in our happiness with wins along the way and drills down on what needs work. I honestly can't say enough! It's a win, win, win!”
-Lama Plyler, parent of 4th grader
“Our daughter’s progress in reading has been remarkable with Mrs. Brown. She does an amazing job at tailoring her lessons to her specific needs. Our daughter has grown so confident in reading the past year. Seeing the amazing results with my daughter, I knew that I had to sign up our son with Mrs. Brown as soon as we noticed that he was struggling with some kindergarten reading skills. We have already seen the impact that it has had on his academics just after a few months. It has been a great experience and investment for their future of reading. We love working with Mrs. Brown!”
-Kristi & Benjamin Garrett, parents of kindergartener & 2nd grader
“This summer, we had the wonderful opportunity to work with Mrs. Brown to support our pre-kindergarten child’s early literacy development. From the very first session, Mrs. Brown made learning fun, engaging, and perfectly age-appropriate. What could have been a slow summer turned into a season full of growth, confidence, and excitement around learning. Our child learned to understand letter sounds, and even started blending simple words and identifying sight words- all while truly enjoying the process. We are sincerely grateful for her dedication and would confidently recommend Mrs. Brown to any family seeking high-quality reading support!”
-Dori Clarke, parent of pre-kindergartener
“My daughter’s confidence in reading has drastically improved. She loves coming to tutoring with Mrs. Brown and is highly motivated to continue working at home.”
-Marie Olson, parent of 2nd grader
“Our son faces challenges with writing, attention, focus, and executive functioning skills. Thanks to Mrs. Brown's guidance, he has made significant progress in enhancing his writing stamina, transitioning from basic RACES responses to crafting well-structured paragraphs that include an introduction, body, and conclusion this summer. Mrs. Brown's patience, kindness, and support have been invaluable, as she consistently provides parents with constructive feedback on their child's growth and areas needing improvement. We intend to continue his tutoring throughout the school year to further support his learning journey.”
-Joanna Potempa, parent of 6th grader
